Yes you are right, it's the url on the papers found in the room. Just go to the yellow chamber with the URL on the note you found, you get table with cards, click on the cards to reveal the code. I think the code changes each time.
I tried it again but it seems that it is also important from what site you load the game. Also, you must restart the game after you get the number from the yellow chamber. So, try loading the game from original site, and restart after you get the code. Other ways might work too (?).
To try and clear up the confusion here, there are numerous sites that host the Crimson Room game. The sites can be broken down into 2 catagories... the 'official' site and all the 'other' sites.
If you're playing on the official site, fasco-csc.com , then you need to go to the yellow chamber and use the unique code for the safe.
If you're playing the game at any other site like ebaumsworld.com, the safe code should be 1994 if I'm remembering correctly.
